Treatments for Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis, also known as adenomyosis disease, is a gynecological condition characterized by the invasion of endometrial glands and stroma into the uterine muscle layer, maintaining cyclic hyperplasia, shedding, and hemorrhagic functional changes. This disease commonly occurs in women aged 30 to 50 years who have given birth, with approximately 15% of patients also having endometriosis, and half of the cases of adenomyosis are associated with uterine fibroids. The etiology of adenomyosis is different from that of endometriosis, but both are regulated by estrogen.

The main symptoms of adenomyosis include:

1. Dysmenorrhea: This is one of the most common symptoms of adenomyosis, characterized by progressive intensification, starting 1-2 days before menstruation, with severe, spasmodic, or colicky pain that often radiates to the lumbar spine, lower abdomen, and perineum.

2. Menorrhagia: The amount of menstrual bleeding can increase several times compared to normal, sometimes leading to severe bleeding and anemia. This is caused by congestion and bleeding of the ectopic endometrial glands within the uterine muscle layer, stimulating excessive contraction of the uterine smooth muscle.

3. Prolonged menstrual period: While the menstrual cycle may be normal, the duration of menstruation often extends to more than 7 days. Lesions in the uterine muscle layer interfere with the normal shedding and repair process of the endometrium, delay the time for menstrual blood to be expelled.

4. Infertility: Adenomyosis can affect the normal morphology and function of the uterus, making the uterine environment unsuitable for the implantation of the fertilized egg and the development of the embryo, thus reducing the chance of pregnancy.

5. Uterine enlargement: As the condition progresses, the uterus gradually becomes uniformly enlarged and harder in texture. This can be detected through gynecological examination or ultrasound, and in severe cases, the uterus may be several times larger than normal, potentially compressing surrounding tissues and organs, causing symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and constipation.

Treatment methods for adenomyosis include steam therapy, traditional Chinese medicine external treatment, pharmacological treatment, surgical treatment, and other therapies.

Pharmacological treatment mainly aims to alleviate symptoms by regulating hormone levels, such as using contraceptives, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and Chinese herbs.

Surgical treatment is chosen based on the specific circumstances of the patient, such as adenomyoma resection or hysterectomy. For infertile patients, adenomyoma resection may be considered, but there is a possibility of recurrence after surgery. For pregnant patients, regular prenatal check-ups are necessary to closely monitor for uterine contractions. If there is paroxysmal abdominal pain or a sensation of uterine tightness, the patient should go to the hospital immediately for consultation and, if necessary, receive conservative treatment.

For women with adenomyosis, third-generation IVF technology is also a possible option, given the genetic factors and the impact on fertility.

The above treatment methods are sourced from the internet and do not represent our medical advice or recommendations. Any harm or ineffectiveness caused by surgery or medication is not related to this webpage. Patients should conduct risk assessments before surgery or medication and seek advice from multiple hospitals to understand the therapeutic effects and medical risks before treatment.

Steam Therapy:
It is an innovative external treatment method using ancient prescriptions. Clinical observations over 11 years have found that it has a good therapeutic effect on various gynecological diseases, including adenomyosis, cold uterus dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, polycystic infertility, amenorrhea, fallopian tube obstruction, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, breast hyperplasia, and breast cancer.

The therapy involves high-temperature herbal steam fumigation for the entire body, followed by the application of high-temperature herbal poultices to the cervical spine, lumbar spine, abdomen, or breasts (for patients with breast diseases). After 3-6 days, the herbal ingredients penetrate into the skin, breaking down blockages in the meridians or eliminating wind, cold, and dampness into particles, which are then excreted through sweat pores and form scabs. After a few days, these scabs start to fall off, and various symptoms can improve or be completely resolved as the treatment progresses.

Although clinical observations have found it effective, according to health-related laws, we cannot guarantee or promise 100% effectiveness. Additionally, our technique is not yet perfect, and there are individual differences and lifestyle factors. Patients who require absolute guarantees should be aware of this and seek the advice of experts.
